Search Tips

  • To perform a search, type the name or item of interest into the search box.
  • Check the spelling, although the search engine will always attempt to find words sounding similar.
  • Use multiple words to refine your search, but surround the words with quotation marks if the words must appear adjacent to each other, for example, "manorial estate"
  • Use appropriate capitalisation, lowercase entries will match any case, whereas capitals for the first letter as in proper nouns, will only give an exact match, for example, entry Manorial will only find the same not manorial or MANORIAL. Entry manorial will find all three.
  • Use (+) and (-), to indicate whether or not the word or phrase is required in the search results. A plus sign signifies that the word or phrase must appear, whereas a minus sign indicates that the word or phrase must be absent in the search results, for example +"manorial estate" -Christon. No spaces must follow the plus and minus.
  • Wildcard searches can expand the number of matches for a request. An asterisk is used as the wildcard, for example, searching for mano* would find all occurrences of manor, manorial, manoeuvre etc. Multiple wildcards can be used, for example, *row* would find brown, drowning, tomorrow etc.
  • Mix together the various search criteria for one specific search request
