Early Reminiscences .....................

Click here for Stark(s) Family TreeBetty Baker of Biddisham recollects the story of 'The Apple' told by her grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Body of Biddisham. Her grandmother was the daughter of Charles Starks and she used to visit her parents at Loxton with her two boys Stanley and Charlie.

Granfer(1) Starks (Charles Starks) once worked as a gardener and grafted a branch of an unknown variety of apple on to his tree. One apple grew on the new branch and, when it was just ripe and ready to eat he took the two boys into the garden to show them his pride and joy. He said to the boys

"Don't ee pick that apple".

Later in the day Granfer went into the garden to look at his apple and all he found was an apple core still hanging to the tree.

As a final touch of irony, apparently many years later when Stanley grew plum trees and had a son of his own. His son had followed in his father's footsteps and ate a special plum still hanging on a tree.

More to follow.....................
